This park as well as being the country's only coastal
park extends to over 60,000 hectares, with some 20,000 hectares of ocean
area which includes several islands, such as Isla Salango, Isla de la
Plata and Los Frailes beach line, with the other 40,000 hectares consisting
of onshore cloud and tropical dry forest.
The latter area is also an important archaeological site
predating back to the Chorrera and Salango cultures of 1500-500BC and
3000 BC respectively as well as pre-Inca ruins.
